WooCommerce Cost: Store Stack Upfront and at Renewal

WooCommerce's own page says 'Download WooCommerce free' and shows no price for the core plugin, so the cost of a store is the parts around it. The stack below prices hosting, a .com domain and a theme in dollars: $154.52 paid upfront for the recommended picks, which covers 36 months of hosting and 12 months of the domain, then $130.76 a year at renewal. The cheaper picks are $46.76 for 12 months and $226.76 a year at renewal. The two upfront figures cover different periods. The theme's page states no renewal price, so it adds nothing to the renewal figure. Extensions are listed in dollars below with no stated renewal, and payment fees are per sale, so neither is in those totals. Figures come from vendor pages read on October 30 and 31, 2026.

What this job needs

An online store on WooCommerce needs the plugin, a host, a domain, a theme, a way to take card payments, and answers on sales tax and shipping.

  • WooCommerce core, which woocommerce.com offers with the words Download WooCommerce free
  • A WordPress host with a stated site count and a stated price
  • A .com domain, priced per year with a renewal price
  • A theme, from the WordPress.org theme directory or from a vendor
  • A payment processor whose per-sale fee is published on its own page
  • Sales tax and shipping tools: Woo lists WooCommerce Tax and WooCommerce Shipping, both described as free, each with stated limits

What it costs

First year is what you pay in the first 12 months. A plan marked as prepaid covers more than 12 months, so its amount is the full upfront payment and not a 12-month cost. Renewal is the cost of 12 months at the price the vendor lists for renewal. Every figure shows the date I checked it.

A cheaper stack

Use the host with the lowest 12-month amount in the log, with the same domain and theme. The priced total is $46.76 for the first 12 months and $226.76 a year at renewal, against $154.52 upfront and $130.76 a year at renewal for the recommended stack. The upfront figures do not cover the same period: $154.52 includes 36 months of Bluehost hosting, while $46.76 includes 12 months of SiteGround. Twelve months of Bluehost's 36-month term at $3.99 is $47.88, against SiteGround's $35.88 for 12 months. At renewal the cheaper stack is $96.00 a year more, because SiteGround renews at $17.99 a month against $2.99 in the first term.

  • Hosting: SiteGround. The lowest first-year amount among the seven host rows: $2.99 a month prepaid for 12 months, which is $35.88. It renews at $17.99 a month, $215.88 for 12 months, which is $96.00 more than Bluehost's renewal. The EU version of the page lists 1 website, unlimited traffic and 10 GB of storage for StartUp. What WooCommerce core costs

The WooCommerce home page has the words 'Download WooCommerce free' in its footer and calls WooCommerce 'the Open Source commerce platform for WordPress'. The page shows the word and no price figure, so this page adds no number for the core plugin.

That answers how much does WooCommerce cost only for the plugin. Hosting, a domain, a theme, extensions and payment fees are separate lines, and the rest of this page prices them.

Free core, priced extras

WooCommerce core is the base. Woo lists some official extensions with no price, WooCommerce Tax and WooCommerce Shipping, and others at a yearly price. Which extras a store needs depends on what it sells, and a store that needs none of them pays only for hosting, a domain, a theme and payment fees.

  • WooCommerce Tax, by Woo: listed at no price and described as free in its FAQ. It is listed for the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and several European countries, and the page says it does not file or remit tax.
  • WooCommerce Shipping, by Woo: 'free to install, with no markup, no monthly fees, and no hidden costs'. You pay for the labels you buy. The page says 'Shipments need to originate from the US.' and that it does not show live rates to customers at checkout.

Payment processing fees in the United States

Processors charge per sale, so these fees are not in the totals above. Stripe and WooPayments were read on October 31, 2026 from their US pages, and PayPal on October 30, 2026.

United States card fees as published
ProcessorCard rate as publishedAdded fees as published
Stripe (read October 31, 2026)2.9% + 30¢ per successful transaction for domestic cards+ 0.5% for manually entered cards, + 1.5% for international cards, + 1% if currency conversion is required, $15.00 for each dispute received. The page says: No setup fees, monthly fees, or hidden fees.
WooPayments (read October 31, 2026)2.90% + $0.30+1.50% international payment, +1.00% currency conversion, $15.00 dispute. The page says Puerto Rico-based merchants are charged the same rates.
PayPal (read October 30, 2026)3.49% + fixed fee for PayPal Checkout; 2.99% + fixed fee for Standard Credit and Debit Card Payments. Fixed fee for US dollars: 0.49 USD.+1.50% international on commercial transactions, 3.00% or 4.00% currency conversion, 20.00 USD chargeback. A monthly fee for a standard commercial account is not stated on the page.

Plugins commonly needed for a WooCommerce store

These are US dollar prices from each woocommerce.com product page, read October 31, 2026. None of the six pages states a renewal price, whether the plan renews automatically, or a site limit, and each lists a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Rule for the stack: an extension is in the stack total only when the job names what the extension's page names. The job here is an online store, which names none of them, so no extension is in the totals above. The table adds each one to the recommended stack's $154.52 upfront total, which includes a 36-month hosting prepayment. Renewal is not stated for any of them, so there are no renewal sums.

All five of Subscriptions, Table Rate Shipping, Shipment Tracking, Product Add-Ons and Smart Coupons together are $279 + $119 + $59 + $79 + $99 = $635 for the 1-year plans, which makes $154.52 + $635 = $789.52 upfront, with the same 36-month hosting prepayment inside it. Memberships is $199 on top of that if you add it.

Theme choices and what each page states

Disclosure: I work at Brainstorm Force, the company that makes Astra. Astra Pro + AI is listed with its price for information. Under the selection rule below it is never picked automatically, and I have not ranked the themes against each other.

The Liquid Web page for Kadence sells a 1-site bundle for $350 a year and does not say which Kadence product that covers, so the bundle is not in any total.

How the recommended and cheaper picks were chosen

Brainstorm Force products are shown with a price but are never picked automatically. Within that limit, the recommended stack takes, for each role, the option whose page states both a first-year price and a renewal price, and of those the lowest renewal. Hosts that state a renewal price here are Bluehost ($9.99 a month), Hostinger ($10.99 a month) and SiteGround ($17.99 a month); Kinsta, WP Engine and Cloudways do not state one. Of the two registrars, Dynadot renews at $10.88 and Porkbun at $11.08. For the theme, Kadence's wordpress.org page is the one non-Brainstorm Force theme here that states a price.

Cheaper stack: for each role, the lowest first-year amount in the log, within the same limit. SiteGround's 12-month prepaid term is $35.88, the lowest of the seven host rows, and Dynadot's $10.88 is the lowest registration price. The theme is the same.

The Bluehost page has Monthly and 1 Year price tabs that I did not read. The 36-month price is the one used, so the Bluehost amount covers 36 months, not a first year, and the table marks it as prepaid.

The rule picks by what the pages state, and I have not run speed or uptime tests on any host. If the rule changes, the picks change.

What this page is based on

Nothing on this page comes from hands-on use of these products. Every price and limit is the vendor's own, read from its page on the date shown, and I have not run speed, uptime or support tests.

How I checked

Every price comes from the cost page named above, read from each vendor's own page on October 30 or October 31, 2026 as each row shows. The hosting rows reuse the figures from WPBundle's hosting pages. Nothing was estimated or converted, and nothing was purchased for this page. This page reports no speed or uptime tests.

Stripe, WooPayments, the six extensions, Bluehost, SiteGround and Astra were read on October 31, 2026 through a US-region fetch of each vendor's own page. The rest were read on October 30, 2026.

Sources and checked dates

Every price above comes from the vendor's own pricing page.

Questions

How much does WooCommerce cost?

The WooCommerce page has the words 'Download WooCommerce free' and shows no price for the core plugin. A store still pays for hosting, a domain, a theme and payment fees. The stack above prices hosting, domain and theme at $154.52 upfront, which covers 36 months of hosting and 12 months of the domain, and $130.76 a year at renewal. The cheaper stack is $46.76 for the first 12 months.

What are the payment fees for WooCommerce in the US?

Stripe lists 2.9% + 30¢ for domestic cards and WooPayments lists 2.90% + $0.30. PayPal lists 3.49% + a fixed fee for PayPal Checkout, with a fixed fee of 0.49 USD for US dollars. The fee table above has the added fees.

Do WooCommerce extensions have a renewal price?

The six extension pages I read list a 1-year plan from $59 to $279 and a 2-year plan at a discount. None states a renewal price or whether the plan renews automatically. Each lists a 30-day money-back guarantee.
